What on Earth is otherkin?

Otherkin is a subculture of people who believe they are partially or entirely non-human. I know that sounds shocking but there are probably thousands of us. Being otherkin means believing you have the soul of an animal/fictional character/mythical being, or having been one in a past life. There are other types of otherkin that have the soul of a god, demon, angel, star, galaxy and much much more, but animals, historical and fictional figures and mythical beings are the most common ones. People who have the soul of an animal are called therians, but otherwise people just add -kin to the end of the being they identify as: dragonkin,vampirekin, angelkin,starkin,galaxykin etc. We get a lot of hate comments from tumblr and YouTube, but we have safe havens like Kinmunity and kin-specific forums/groups. Otherkin är en subkultur av människor som tror de är delvis eller helt nånting annat än människor, eller att de har varit något annat än människor i ett tidigare liv. Det låter ganska chockande men det finns flera tusen av oss. De mest vanliga typer av otherkin är djur, karaktärer från tv,filmer och litteratur, och mytiska varelser. Människor som har själen av en djur kallas theriantroper, men annars kan man sätta -kin efter vad man identifierar som. T.ex. drakekin, vampyrkin, ängelkin, stjärnakin, galaxkin osv. Otherkin on alakulttuuri, jonka jäsenet uskovat heillä olevan eläimen, fiktiivisen hahmon tai myyttisen olennon sielu, tai olleensa edellisessä elämässä sellainen. Muitakin kintyyppejä kuin eläimet,hahmot ja taruolennot on olemassa, mutta nämä kolme ovat yleisimmät. Eläimensieluisia ihmisiä kutsutaan therianeiksi tai theriantroopeiksi, mutta muuten oman kintyypin perään lisätään -kin. Esim.dragonkin,vampirekin,angelkin,starkin,galaxykin jne. Otherkinit joutuvat kohtaamaan paljon vihapuhetta mm.tumblrista ja YouTubesta, mutta meitä on tuhansia.
